Insulate piping and equipment throughout the plant using various types of insulation and materials according to T.E.D. specifications. Install steam tracing in piping and equipment according to T.E.D. specifications. Apply fireproofing material to tank skirts, steel beams, etc., according to T.E.D. specifications. Remove all types of insulation (except asbestos) from piping and equipment.


Must be able to read, write, and have strong communication skills. Must be able to read a tape measure, climb, and also be willing to work in a crane basket, hi-ranger, grove/snorkel lift, work off stepladders, extension ladders and scaffolding from ground to heights exceeding 125 feet. Drivers license in good standing will be required to obtain stacker license through company, and license must remain in good standing in order to operate a stacker.


Work requires coordination, balance, climbing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, bending, and reaching. Must be able to wear a full face respirator and pass a pulmonary function test.


May have respiratory or skin exposure to various chemicals that are manufactured or used throughout the jobsite.

Irritant substances are:
fiberglass, and mineral fiber insulation, calcium silicate dusts, vinyl acrylic mastics, asphalt bas sealers, portland containing cements, woven fiberglass cloths and fiberglass resin sealer.

Metal jackets and straps with sharp edges and some metals laminated with lead, also various types of metal:
aluminum, galvanized and stainless.


1. Carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Insulate piping, equipment, ducts, boilers, vessels, and walls to prevent one or all of the following:
freezing, employee safety, temperature level, noise, fireproofing, condensation and beautification.
3. Operate boom trucks, snorkel lifts and fork lifts.
4. Install steam tracing on piping and equipment prior to installing insulation.
5. Apply fireproofing and fire stop material to equipment, walls, beams, control and electrical rooms.
6. Install both permanent and reusable insulation.
7. Remove (de-insulate) insulation as needed.
8. May be trained for work in fab shop, sew shop, steam tracing and fireproofing.
9. Must be able to comply with all safety regulations and procedures applicable to a chemical plant environment.
10. Regular reliable attendance and flexibility to work varied shifts and/or overtime as needed.
